Getting Started in Roma Victor Welcome to Roma Victor. A virtual world as comprehensive and open-ended as this can often be quite daunting at first. On this page you'll find some helpful advice and guidance along with some useful links intended to help you get started. Please note: Some of the links on this page may require you to log in.
You can log in using your usual forum profile username and password. |
Documentation The RVWiki contains most of the online documentation for Roma Victor and is certainly one of the most useful resources available to Roma Victor's Participants.
The RVWiki is a joint project run by the Roma Victor community and RedBedlam and includes a host of invaluable information about life in this diverse virtual world. Even before you start creating your character it's a good idea to read through the RVWiki in order to help you understand the various commands, functions and activities you'll need to get started and make some progress with your new character.
Please note: Most of this documentation is created and edited by members of the community. While this document is generally considered extremely reliable, not all parts may be 100% accurate. |
Creating a character Before you even start up the Roma Victor client software, you will need to create a character to take through life in 180CE. For this you'll need to visit the Account Page.
Upon accessing the Account Page for the first time you will be asked to complete the Account Creation form, which will in turn lead you to the Character Creator. Once you have decided on your appearance, attributes and skills, you will be given the password you need to access the game world. For more information about the choices involved in character creation you should consult the RVWiki and perhaps take a look through the Participant forums.
After your character has been created, the Account Page will provide detailed information about your Account and your character. |
Downloading, installing and patching Please visit the Participant Files Page in order to download the latest Patcher. Please remember to disable any download managers and simply left-click to initiate the download. Download managers will cause the file to come to you corrupt, incomplete or simply not allow you to download at all. The Patcher is usually contained within a zip file and can be installed just as you would install any other software application.
After installation, you can launch the Patcher and click Connect in order to connect to RedBedlam's Patch server and download all of the latest Roma Victor Client files. As soon as the patch process is complete, which can take quite a while when run for the very first time, the Client will start up and you'll be able to log in to the world of Roma Victor itself.
Please note: While you always use the same username to log in, there are two passwords connected with your account. One is the RV Community Profile password that you use to access the forums, the Account Page, Participant Files Page etc. and the other is the password provided during character creation that you use to log in to Roma Victor servers. You can manage your Profile password here and your Roma Victor password at the Account Page. |
The Participant Menu If in doubt you can always turn to the Participant Menu to find all the most useful links in one central location. |
The VERM - no monthly fees! Unlike most virtual worlds there are no monthly subscription fees required in order to continue to access the Roma Victor servers. Instead we ask people to consider purchasing the in-game currency, known as Sesterces, in order to help us fund and maintain this service. You can find more information about the VERM here or Participants can go straight to the VERM Page to purchase sesterces (Log-in details required). |
Using the Forums The Roma Victor Forums are the hub of the Roma Victor community and the best place to search for information about the game. If you can't find what you're looking for using the Roma Victor Forum Search function then please feel free to start a new topic. The community tends to be very responsive and happy to help so you'll usually find an answer to your question is posted pretty quickly. We believe that the Roma Victor community is one of the best around so please feel free to add to the discussion and don't be afraid to ask any questions.
Which forum to use?
Please try to make sure that you post your question or observation within the correct forum category. Although Participants can post in any of the Roma Victor Forums we usually encourage them to post within the Pariticipants-only section, which is read more frequently by members of the development and support teams. Within the Participants section there are several different forums.
- General non-specific posts can go in the Participant Discussion forum
- If your post is about the Participant community and/or activities within Roma Victor itself then please use the Community & Events forum.
- For help with your Account such as password guidance, access issues or problems with purchasing sesterces, please use the Account Support forum.
- For posts about bugs or gameplay balance problems you can use the Bugs & Balance forum.
- You can post about any problems that you encounter with the Roma Victor client software in the Errors & Crashes forum.
- Just as with non-Participants we ask that any posts that have little or nothing to do with Roma Victor go in the public Off-Topic forum.
Forum etiquette
The RV Forums are the direct link between you and us. Our ability to read them efficiently and interact with the community as a whole is crucial. Equally crucial is maintaining the almost academic levels of decorum surrounding discussions, debates and disagreements that we've traditionally enjoyed here.
As we are rightly proud of the standard of community discussion, we do maintain a higher level of moderation of the forums than some others you may have been a part of before. Please note that your threads may often be locked after an answer, or link to an answer is provided. This is simply to keep things clean and tidy.
You should always try to title your threads appropriately. "I'm having a problem" or "Idea!" are poor choices for thread titles. "Hammer crafting bug" or "Improving user communication in game" are excellent titles.
Please be civil at all times and please stick to the topic of the forum post. If you take issue with another poster then please send them a Private Message (PM) and take your discussion out of the forums rather than take over a topic with your disagreements. However even within private messages please always show some respect and behave responsibly. Abuse or misuse of the forums and/or private message facility is likely to result in a permanent ban, at RedBedlam's sole discretion.
Please also refrain from making posts that have little or no constructive content. It's important that we keep the forums as clean and clear as possible for both us and the community. This includes posts that contain no more information than "Me too". Do not be offended if your post is removed as we are simply trying to keep things tidy and simple to read. As there are thousands of Participants and only a few of us, this better facilitates our ability to get to the heart of any problems and suggestions. It's never personal and we value everyone's opinions and comments - even if we end up deleting them or moving them to another forum.
Forum signature guidelines
To further keep the forums tidy and readable we request that everyone adheres to the following signature restrictions:
- Images should be no more than 400 pixels wide and 100 pixels high
- Image files should be no more than 48KB in size
- A maximum of one image
- A maximum of two lines of text

Contacting RedBedlam RedBedlam is a small independent virtual world developer and we receive hundreds of direct communications every day. To help us save time and allow us to provide the best levels of service possible, please consider the following options before getting in touch directly:
The RVWiki
You first option is to make sure that you've read as much information as possible by reading and searching the RVWiki.
Search the forums
If you can't find the information you need from the Wiki then try searching the forums using the Roma Victor Forum Search tool. If you're searching for a problem of crashing while logging in, for example, try typing (without quotes) "crash AND logon". That will yield all the posts that contain both of those words while "crash logon" will give you every post that has ever used the word 'crash' and every post that has ever used 'logon'.
Post in the correct forum
If you can't find a relevant post about your issue then please post in the relevant Roma Victor forum. Both RedBedlam and the Roma Victor community are very responsive and you can usually expect to receive an answer to your post very quickly.
Use the support form
If you still can't find the answer you're looking for then please use the support form. You should always remember to log in before using the support form and please bear in mind that the more relevant information you can provide about your particular issue and/or situation, the easier it will be to respond and hopefully resolve. Once again, "I need help!" is a much less worthwhile subject line than something like "Error encountered while attempting to purchase sesterces".
We usually reply via e-mail but please be aware that whilst we make every effort to respond as quickly and as helpfully as possible, in some circumstances it may take us several days to get back to you. Thanks in advance for your patience!
The feedback forms
There are also two feedback forms intended for issues not related to customer or community support. The first is the general feedback form, which can be used to send us a general message about Roma Victor or anything else for that matter. The second is the web content feedback form, which is intended to be used to send us feedback, suggestions and ideas with regard to the Roma-Victor.com website.
Private Messages to RedBedlam
Please refrain from sending Private Messages (PM's) to the developers. Despite the fact that we ask people not to, we each receive dozens on an almost daily basis. In most cases the developers are unable to even read them, let alone respond. Rather than feel ignored we would be much happier if you contacted us through any one of the channels mentioned above.
