RedBedlam Meets At Last

The week in summary 23-29 April

The RV Team at Chesters FortThe last week in April saw an historic event for RedBedlam, the creators of the classic Roman Empire themed virtual world Roma Victor®. The team enjoyed their first full 'in-person' meeting since the project’s inception in 2001. Team members travelled from several corners of the globe to RedBedlam's studio in Brighton, England.

A hectic week ensued with English Heritage inviting the team to visit some of the historic Roman sites along Hadrian's Wall, which as well as featuring prominently in the virtual world of Roma Victor, are also preserved and maintained for current and future generations to visit and explore for real.

In the real world, Chesters Roman Fort and the Corbridge Roman site exist only as ruins (albeit with comprehensive facilities and museums), but in inside Roma Victor these locations are still known as the fort at Cilurnum and the Roman town of Corstopitum and are home to thriving local communities full of the day-to-day activities that you might have expected to find there nearly two thousand years ago.

The visit was quite an experience. For the team to be standing in the ruins of the Fort and Town they had built and explored in meticulous detail for the online recreation was truly uplifting for all of us. The visit was also covered ITV and the local press.

After we had returned to Brighton, it was time for meetings and lots of them. As well as general meetings intended to work on the priorities for development and growth of the game and to discuss in detail the roll out of the next milestone in development - “The Escalation”.

Friday was intended to rest our now badly aching limbs and share a relaxing lunch, with the last team member due to join the celebration, but first we needed to do a team photo shoot.

Find out more about the places we visited, the people we met and the plans we made in the diary of the week and accompanying photos and videos. We'll be adding more pictures to the separate diary pages over the following weeks – we have so many to share!
