Skill Training

The skill system in Roma Victor is based around usage. As you use a certain skill more, it increases in rank. There is a skill cap which limits the total number of skill masteries each character is permitted.This cap is calculated by adding up your intuition and sense and dividing the sum by 5. By maxing your sense (which is an increasable attribute) to 99, you are guaranteed a minimum 20 maxed skills before hitting this cap.

Below are listed various activities used to train different skills.

Animal-handling - chase animals or, if you can get close enough, feed them whilst handling them.


Basic - press F7 repeatedly (you will also get a gain in sense-of-direction and personal skill Sense)


Brewing


Carpentry - attach to polelathe_a and make poles from branches; adding handle_a to an handcart_a project; adding board to buckler_wood_a project; adding board to apiary_a


Combat - let others hit you in training with everything unequipped


Construction - add firebrick or bricks to stove_a, furnace_a and forge_a , also make bricks; add rocks to apiary_a


Cooking - cooking meat_fish in stove_a and baking dough in oven_a


Deception

Farming - attach to barley field and tend, also with Winnowing Fork equipped make cerealears_barley from sheaf_barley, also with siftingpan_a equipped make seeds_barley from cerealears_barley


Grooming


Handcraft - attach to bench_workbench_a with knife_a equipped and make winnowingfork_a from pole. Attach to bench_workbench_a with hammer_a and chisel_a equipped and make whorl_a from rock. Attach to bench_workbench_a with hammer_a equipped and make spindle_a from whorl_a and handle_a


Horseriding

  • bareback

Hunting - with knife_a equipped, saltwater in inventory make goatskin_uncured from [carcass_goat; tracking


Lore - /pray repeatedly

Masonry - with hammer_a and chisel_a equipped add rock to grindstone, also extract limestone from quarry with same set of tools


Milling


Mining - with pick_a equipped mine ore (you will also get gain in personal skill Strength)


Music

Pottery - make: firebricks, moulds; collect: clay from clay pit (you will also get gain in personal skill Craftsmanship)

Smelting - add firewood to charcoal project

Smithing- add firewood to furnace or forge project


Tailoring - attach to loom_a with twine in inventory and make cloth also attach to loom_a and make bandana_a or [bandana_b


Textiles - with knife_a equipped add branch to roundhouse_small also attach to rettingpit_a and add sheaf_flax


Treatment - after your training partner is down, with water in inventory; aim at him, press space, and choose 'aid'

  • injuries - use rags to heal bleeds.

  • treatment-wounds - heal wounds using the items required (see page for more information).

Woodcutting - with hatchet_a equipped cut branch from tree also with knife_a equipped make handle_a or handle_b
