Jobs

Jobs are a mechanism by which players can exchange money for goods and labour.

Looking for work?

Players can check for local jobs either using the /info command or by querying certain NPC's. You can also drag the info icon onto your Action Bar for convenience. After selecting a job you will be able to get a waypoint to that project. You can then visit the project with the specified component and, as long as you qualify for the job (see ratings below), add the component to the project. If you successfully add the component without causing degradation in the overall project then the corresponding payment will be transferred from the project-owners VBA to yours. Jobs, it turns out, are a good way to earn money.

Potential employer?

If you would like some unskilled labour or a specialist crafter to assist with part of a project?, you can post a job at the Labour Exchange while reviewing the status of a project. When posting a job you will first select which part of the project (by component and skill) that you wish to have completed and then select its rating. Its cost is calculated based on the chosen rating, the value of the component required and an approximate estimation combining task difficulty, duration and skill requirements. See below for more information.

There are four kinds (ratings) of jobs:

Guild

Guild rated jobs can only be worked by members of the same guild as the owner of the project concerned.

Open

Anyone can visit a projectsite with an Open rated job available and add components to the project. Note that if the addition to the project causes a degradation in the project's overall quality then the work goes unpaid.

Qualified

Only players of a sufficient proficiency in the appropriate skill can add components to a Qualified project. Note that if the use of sub-standard components causes a degradation in the project's overall quality then this work will also go unpaid.

Master

Only players with mastery in the appropriate skill can add components to a Master-rated project. Note that if the use of sub-standard components causes a degradation in the project's overall quality then this work will also go unpaid.

Payments are transferred directly from one player's VBA to another and jobs are costed on a per-unit basis. In other words if 50 pieces of clay are to be added to a project and the job costing is 10 sesterces per unit a player might expect to pay (or earn) up to 500 sesterces taking part in that job. Players are not prevented from adding any components to their projects regardless of whether any jobs exist for them. Players that have been granted access privileges to a project site can take part in that project without any fees changing hands.
