Armour

Roma Victor has many types of armour and shields with varying levels of three parameters: penetration and blunt protections for body armour, and shield strength for shields. A comparative list of armour values.

The following is taken from a post by KFR in January 2007:
Every single type of clothing and armour in Roma Victor has blunt protection and puncture resistance properties. They also of course cover various different parts of the body more or less effectively.

Every single item that can be wielded in your right hand has, amongst others, the following properties: balance, slash penetration chance, thrust penetration chance, penetration damage and blunt damage. As you might imagine, Weapons are much more effective than tools and everyday items such as winnowingforks.

When you strike someone, having successfully overcome their dodge, block and parry defenses, you will injure them where the blow lands. If that body part is covered by clothing and/or armour then the attack values (corresponding to the type of attack) are tested against the armour values.

There is usually always some level of blunt trauma. Clothing and armour decreases it significantly. On top of that, should the weapon penetrate the armour then additional penetration injuries will be inflicted. Whenever penetration injuries are caused, there's a further chance of heavy bleeding.

Mixed in with all of those factors, and some more I haven't mentioned, are your the Attributes, Statistics and Skills of those characters involved - as well as a significant amount of chance.

The quality levels of both weapons and armour will soon be integrated into the system, however even as things are right now, armour and clothing offer excellent levels of protection. If a blow to your armoured torso hurts, that doesn't mean that the armour didn't save your life. You could easily have taken fatal penetration damage and/or bled to death.

Types of Armour

  • Clothing offers very low levels of blunt protection and penetration resistance - but something is always much better than nothing.
  • Hide-based items offer good blunt protection and basic penetration resistance.
  • Fur-based items offer very good blunt protection and very basic penetration resistance.
  • Ring and chain-based mail shirts offer good penetration resistance but only low levels of blunt protection.
  • Scale-based armours offer very good penetration resistance but only low levels of blunt protection.
  • Banded segments and plate armour sections offer extremely good penetration resistance but fairly low levels of blunt protection.
